A high-level meeting on 'Policy Dialogue on Evolving Strategies for Increasing Rice Production through Promotion of SRI' was organized at Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) on 4th May 2009. Supported by Directorate of Rice Research (DRR), the meeting was attended by Shri.L.Rynjah, Principal Secretary, Planning Commission of India, Prof.Abhijit Sen and Prof.V.L.Chopra, Members of Planning Commission and Dr.V.V.Sadamate, Advisor (Agriculture), Planing Commission, Govt. of India.
Dr.Viraktamath, Director, DRR welcomed the gathering followed by Dr. Biksham Gujja, Team Leader, ICRISAT-WWF project elaborating the objectives of the meeting. The forenoon session facilitated by Dr.N.K. Sanghi, Advisor, WASSAN, Hyderabad, concluded with farmers sharing their experiences and constraints on SRI.
Later in the day, institutional views were shared by scientists and state government functionaries. This session was facilitated by Dr. P. Raghava Reddy, Vice Chancellor, ANGRAU. Importantly, the meeting facilitated dialogue on policy support to SRI, discussions on technical issues and linkages of SRI, scaling up targets and strategies for implementation. |
